Starfire: NewSpace Firm Plans To Use F-104 To Launch Payloads Into Space

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla – Space experiments that are operated by start-up space firms generally are low-key affairs that employ fairly standard technology. Not so with Star Lab project, an experimental suborbital launcher that was created through  a cooperative agreement between the 4Frontiers Corporation, Starfighters Aerospace, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Central Florida with funding provided by the NASA Florida Space Grant Consortium.




FAU Student Receives Award from NASA to Study Factors Leading to Florida’s Coastal Hazards

 anie Forbes, a doctoral student in the department of geosciences within the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science at Florida Atlantic University, has received a grant from the NASA Florida Space Grant Consortium (FSGC), an affiliate of NASA’s National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program. Forbes is FAU’s first-ever FSGC fellowship recipient. 




Hundreds of Girl Scouts Reach for the Stars in Rocket Competition


Michelle Jorgensen from Colorado, was the first Girl Scout to win nationally in the Reach for the Stars ~ Rocket Competition. She competed in 2009 with Troop #337 at the Challenger Learning Center of Colorado. She was followed in 2010 by Azriel Clary who competed during a camp-in with the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida.





Apple seeds in Space

The Florida Space Grant Consortium is proud to announce that it is sponsoring two student-led payloads that will be launching on space shuttle Endeavour’s final mission, STS-134, currently scheduled to launch on April 29 at 3:47 p.m. EDT.




Squid In Space

Boldly going where no cephalopod has gone before, the Florida Space Grant Consortium is sponsoring a student-led experiment from the University of Florida to send squid embryos into space on board space shuttle Endeavour, currently scheduled to launch on its final mission on April 29 at 3:47 p.m. EDT.
