Letter of Intent (Due: October 17, 2004)
A non-binding Letter of Intent to propose must
delivered to us by 4:30 PM (Eastern Time), Sunday, October 17, 2004. Any
legible submission, including by e-mail (to:
eellegood@fsri.org), is acceptable so long as
it contains the name and mailing address of the academic institution(s)
and department(s) involved; name, phone number and e-mail address of the
Team Leader (must be a student); name, title, telephone number and
e-mail address of Supervising Faculty Member. Letters of intent should
be addressed to:

Proposal (Due: Extended to December 7, 2004)
Via e-mail attachment (to:
eellegood@fsri.org), an electronic copy of
your proposal must be in our possession by 4:30PM (Eastern Time),
Tuesday, December 7, 2004. In addition to responses to the requirements
set forth elsewhere in the Competition Guidelines, a proposal must
include:
- A cover page containing the title of your proposal, school name
and address, name of Team Leader with e-mail address and phone number,
name of Supervising Faculty Member with e-mail address and phone
number, and names of all other team members with their roles and
academic levels (if students).
- A short (up to 300 words) summary of your proposal.
- Conceptual Design Review (CDR) Report (maximum of 20 pages)
- Outreach Plan (maximum 3 pages)
- Supplemental Information
- a brief description of the student team's academic department(s);
existing brochures and announcements may be included; departmental
plans, strengths, laboratories and other relevant facilities, and
any working arrangements with other universities or organizations
that may relate to the project should be described;
- a brief description of the department's course curriculum and
how the NASA 2004-05 Lunar In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU)
University Design Competition would be employed to enhance it;
- a listing of supporting faculty and other personnel, including
those teaching related courses, those available to students for
consultation, and department heads; include brief biographical
material and technical/professional publication citations;
- an indication of the departmental and institutional commitment
to your team's participation in the the 2004-05 Lunar In-Situ
Resource Utilization (ISRU) University Design Competition program,
such as a letter of endorsement from the university president,
college dean, and/or departmental chairperson.
AT YOUR OPTION and by above deadline set for receipt
of electronic proposals, you may submit your proposal in writing by
sending six (6) copies to:

Selected Teams Announced (December 20, 2004)
Up to four 2004-05 Lunar In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU)
University Design Competition finalist teams will be announced on
Monday, December 20, 2004.
1st Space Exploration
Conference (January 30 - February 1, 2005)
The ISRU finalist teams will be announced during the
1st Space Exploration Conference, sponsored by NASA, AIAA and Lockheed
Martin. One representative from each of the finalist teams will be
invited to participate in this event, to be held at the Disney World
Contemporary Resort. Lockheed Martin will fund travel, hotel
accommodations, and conference registration.
2004-05 Lunar ISRU University Design Competition Conference

The 2004-05 Lunar ISRU University Design Competition
Conference is scheduled for May 24-25, 2005 and is to be held
at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
